Artifact

Artifacts are non-craftable magical items that can be found as loot or earned as quest rewards. Artifacts that are not locked in your Inventory have title text that is a orange-like Brown. If you are not sure if an item is an artifact, hover your mouse over the item, then look at the info window that pops-up. An artifact will show "Artifact" in the info window.

Repairing An Artifact[edit]

Artifact Musical Instruments (such as the Fleet Flute) do not have durability and never break; therefore, they cannot be repaired.

Types of Artifact Repair[edit]

  • Repair with an Ancient Essence - Non-instrument artifacts can be repaired by dragging and dropping an Ancient Essence onto the artifact (when the artifact is in your Inventory). 20 points of "Current Durability" are restored for each ancient essence applied to the artifact (but the essences will not increase the "Maximum Durability Achievable with Essences").
  • Major Repair - increases the "Current Durability" and the "Maximum Durability Achievable with Essences".

When to Perform an Essence Repair Versus Major Repair[edit]

It is most efficient to repair artifacts with an Ancient Essence until the "Durability Achievable with Ancient Essences" is zero (or close to zero), then perform a Major Repair.
For definitions of "Current Durability" and "Maximum Durability Achievable with Essences", and for more details on how durability functions, see Durability.

For additional information, see Repair.

Combining Artifacts to Increase the Tier[edit]

With the Smelting skill, lower tier Artifacts of same type can be combined to create an Artifact of a higher tier. Higher tier artifacts are more powerful.

The Recipes for combining artifacts are Discoverable. Combining artifacts is performed at the Smelting Station and you must have Smelting Tongs equipped. The recipes to combine Artifacts require that the following ingredients be placed on the crafting table:

To Make This
Artifact Tier
Place These Ingredients on Smelting Station
Artifacts Ancient Essence Tool Chunk of Coal
Uncommon 4 Common 1 Stone Chisel 100
Rare 4 Uncommon 2 Stone Chisel 100
Legendary 4 Rare 4 Stone Chisel 100
Epic 2 Legendary 6 Stone Chisel 100

The total number of common artifacts necessary to make each artifact tier is shown below:

To Make This Artifact Tier Total # of Common Tier Artifacts Required
Uncommon 4 Common
Rare 16 Common
Legendary 64 Common
Epic 128 Common

Modifying Artifacts to Add Buffs[edit]

Regarding modifications to artifacts:

Note: Artifacts cannot be socketed with an Imbued Jewel.

Salvaging an Artifact[edit]

Salvaging an artifact will yield Ancient Essences.[1] For eligible artifacts, salvage may also yield an Imbued Gem or Imbued Jewel.

Artifact Tier
That is Salvaged
Yield from Salvage
Ancient Essences Chance of Getting Imbued Gem/Jewel
Common 1 10% chance of getting 1 imbued gem/jewel
Uncommon 1 50% chance of getting 1 imbued gem/jewel
Rare 2 100% chance of getting 1 imbued gem/jewel
Legendary 4 100% chance of getting 2 imbued gems/jewels
Epic 8 100% chance of getting 3 imbued gems/jewels
This only applies to artifacts that are eligible to drop an Imbued Gem or Imbued Jewel.
